I need access to the audio devices over RDP

I want to control a mic on a windows server 2008 over a remote desktop session.
I do not want to redirect the audio to the the client.
I want start recording sessions remotely on the server itself. Lots of articles refer to audio redirection.
But this is not what I want.  I simple want to record sounds in the server room to a sound file on the server.

However, when I create my rdp session to the server, the audio devices are not available for use.
They work fine from the console directly but not over RDP.

Any help greatly appreciated ?
