IE 11 unable to open Gmail.com

A particular user profile on a Windows 8.1 operating system is unable to completely open the www.gmail.com website unless the basic version of Gmail is used.

This issue started occurring about a week ago and the user's profile on this Windows 8.1 computer had been connecting to Gmail just fine for over 2 months (since the OS was last installed).

Gmail opens just fine when launched within other user profiles on the same Windows 8.1 computer.

The user profile having this issue has administrator rights on the computer and we have tried doing things such as clearing all temporary and temporary internet files, resetting Internet Explorer 11 back to the default settings, restoring the advanced settings, etc. but have been unable to resolve this issue.

The user doesn't want to have his Windows profile recreated and would like to have this issue fixed.

What can be done to fix this issue?

This issue continues to happen whether or not Gmail is opened using a /h/ at the end.

No bookmarks for Gmail are being used.

I'm curious... does this happen if the Metro Version from the start screen is used OR the regular version of IE on the desktop is used? Does the same thing happen with both?

This issue stopped happening yesterday without me doing anything else to fix it.
