Sharepoint 2010 Photo sync for existing users

Hello,

Platforms:
SharePoint 2010 on Server 2008 R2
Active Directory on Server 2008 R2

Problem:
We are having problems with photo synchronisation from SharePoint mysites back into Active Directory only for current users. It is working fine for newly created staff but existing staff there is no syncing happening. As you will see from the attached screenshots, a new staff member has the 'thumbnailPhoto' attribute set in AD where as an existing user has 'not set'. Does anyone know what has caused this issue and how to overcome it? Thanks

so you are pushing the picture from SharePoint into AD, correct?  How does SharePoint get populated with the picture?  I assume the existing users have pictures in SharePoint.

Hi Ach1lles, Yes the picture gets upload into their SharePoint Mysite be each user manually and from there is sync's to AD. The existing staff members do have photo in there Mysite but for some reason it is not flowing down into AD.

Are there errors during sync?  Log on to the sync server and open C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Synchronization Service\UIShell\miisclient.exe.  This is the utility that runs the sync.  You can see the steps and any errors  Do not change anything here.

Try launching "as administrator".  I'm assuming the ForeFront services are both running.

I have run a couple of syncs and this all looks fine with no errors. As I said in my first post everything looks fine with new users. It is only affecting existing users where the thumbnailPhoto is 'not set' in AD.

Ok that is good.  Please manually run a full sync (from Central Admin - Profile App - Start Sync) and monitor for errors.

Yes I have run several manual syncs and it completes without error.

Issue turned out to be a problem with synchronisation connection. It wasn't populating the correct containers.
