A MS forum suggested repair to hopefully restore this setting but the client asked will it effect any macros or other settings? <br />

I guess the further question might be will it fix what's broken but leave alone the added elements since the install?

Well, only Microsoft would know what exactly the repair operation does! It might be worth a try. If you still feel it is risky, you might want to create a restore point before doing the repair. This way, if the repair messes up something, you can restore the previous state.<br />
