Office 2010 installer keeps appearing when opening documents

I have a user with a new laptop Win 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit, MS Office 2010 32bit sp1, previously he had an issue whenever he opened an office document, word, excel, or Outlook, the office installer appears, then closes itself and the document eventually opens.

I tried several suggestions that I found while searching the web, nothing worked, so I reimaged the laptop, and now the issue is happening again.

Can someone tell me how to resolve this issue?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you tried a repair install?

Was this an imaged laptop, or manually built?

Yes, this has been tried, nothing worked, when checking the event viewer on his computer I found this:

Detection of product '{90140000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'ProductFiles', component '{56F2C327-5971-4E21-8DB0-2D3004825D82}' failed.  The resource 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\URLREDIR.DLL' does not exist.

URLREDIR.DLL makes me think that this could be malware.

Hi,

Not sure if it is Malware, see http://dll.fyicenter.com/2802_MS_Office_URLREDIR.DLL_14.0_Microsoft_Office_Document_Cac.html

Did you tried @systechadmin suggestions ?

I have tried running the repair, uninstalling/reinstalling, none of that worked. I eventually reimaged the laptop and it was fine for a while. I looked up the urlredir.dll and saw that it is a Microsoft Office Document Cache Handler.

I have a copy of the file and I will copy it to his computer and see if that helps.

Thanks all.

I have resolved this issue by copying the urlredir.dll file to c:\program files (X86)\Microsoft Office\Office 14

Thanks all for your suggestions!
