Is it really necessary to have WAIK/ADS on a domain? I only want to capture images not deploy the with WDS. I'll create the boot CD, then capture the image off the workstation/server manually - transfer to external drive and shipped off with the boot CD.

    Accepted Solution

WAIK allows you to customize the install with an answer file and isn't strictly necessary.  ADS (Active Directory Services) is a requirements to have Active Directory.  Assuming that ADS was a typo and your subject is what you meant, WDS requires a domain in all versions of Windows prior to 2012.  If you're not deploying with WDS what are you deploying with?  Capture can technically be done with IMAGEX from a Windows PE disk - WDS just provides network boot and deployment.

The plan is to send the image capture with a boot CD to the site for them to image. WDS yes not ADS. Can I set this up on a few machines not on a domain?
