Normally, to view the subfolders when a folder contains subfolders you click the plus sign (+) next to the folder .

I do not know if this is your situation.

You are absolutely correct, the problem I am having is that there are no sub folders within those ones that I mentioned in the screen capture. The plus sign is normal and I am used to it with search folders since it has other folders with in. I hope this clarified my problem.  Thanks

From time to time and in various trees I get the plus sign to the left of a folder.  And when I click on the +  it disappears and the folder does not open (just like you experience) .  I have never figured out the cause.  But since it does not seem to affect anything I just live with it.  As mentioned it happens seldomly.

Correct.  I never found the cause, but since it does not seem to affect anything I do not worry about it.
