JSONPath without JavaScript

I am in  a situation where I can not use JavaScript, only JSONPath

With the following JSON object

{"string":"abc"}

Open in new window

I use the following PSONPath expression

$.string

Open in new window

Could someone tell me if this is not possible with JSONPath?  Because, if so I will go in another direction, but JSONPath would be much preferable.

Thanks

... and I get the following result

"abc"

Open in new window

Is there any way within JSONPath to extract the value without the quotes, so I just see the following:

abc

Open in new window

If you can't use javascript, does that mean you're using PHP?  If not, what language are you using?

I researched this and found that there is not a way to perform this within JSONPath

Are you using PHP?

No response was given, and in my research I found an answer to my question.  The answer was that there is no way to do what I had asked.
