HP Laptop loses wireles gateway connection

I have an HP TouchSmart Envy laptop.  I'm mostly connected to the Internet via its built-in wi fi card.  Very frequently, I lose the Internet connection.  What I've learned to do is use the troubleshooting process to get reconnected.  In that process, I see that the pc has lost its connection to the gateway and eventually the "wi fi 2" card is reset.  Usually, but not always, it works again.
I've seen posts on an HP forum that indicates many others have had this problem and some have found a solution.  But none of the solutions are visible.
My question is, if I can do something to avoid this problem with the hardware I have and if so, what?  Secondly, would I be better getting some 3rd party USB wi fi card?  If so, could you give me an example of a brand and model.  Thanks.

For the card you have:

1. Go to Device Manager, select the card and set the advanced settings to NOT turn off to save power.

2. Go to Windows Power Manager, advanced settings and set the Wi-Fi card to Maximum Performance for both battery and AC.

That should fix it.

If not, let's talk about a new card. It would have to be compliant with your HP BIOS very likely.

Although I've only tried to be on-line with this machine for an hour or so since yesterday, because it's been rare to be able to work for an hour without losing the Internet connection, given my time has been blissfully uninterrupted, I declare this a complete success and nominate John as a genius.  Thank you!
