We have a SBS2011 box do some windows updates, God knows how but it came back up with a new self generated host name, needless to say nothing worked. The new host name was in "network and sharing center" and DNS server. a coupe of re-boot later it reverted to assigned name!!!

AD and new user creation is now all ok but the are same exchange services that will not start
Basically exchange cannot find the domain controller

DNS is all good and working or appears to be

if I run
Set-ADServerSettings -PreferredServer mpsdc01.mps.local <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
to point exchange i get the following

Unable to find 'mpsdc01.mps.local' computer information in domain controller 'mpsdc01.mps.local' to perform the suitability check. Verify the fully qualified domain name.

If I run
C:\Windows\system32>nltest /DSregDNS <<<<<<<<<<<<<
Flags: 0
Connection Status = 0 0x0 NERR_Succes
The command completed successfully

DCDiag passes except on the exchange tasks

Have you tried using the Fix my Network Wizard ?

I would suggest you use that to repair the issues you are facing
To run the Fix My Network Wizard

    Open the Windows SBS Console.

On the navigation bar, click Network, and then click Connectivity.

In the task pane, click Fix my network.

Follow the instructions in the wizard. You can click each potential problem that the wizard lists to get more information about the problem.
