Best practices to follow when sending critical data to services along with HTTP request header.

Hi,

We are developing a logging page using HTML5 and Ajax. The login credentials are passing to the web service from Ajax using jQuery.
By pressing f12 button when using chrome we  are able to see the data sending with the request.
Please suggest what are the best practice to follow when sending critical data to the server along with http request.

Thanks

Use SSL. Don't post the credentials, exchange only hashes. Use a challenge.
