Event log monitoring

Looking for others who have put Event log monitoring into place.  I would like to be notified when a particular event occurs (specifically 15006).  Notification needs to use an alternative mechanism than email.  We have experienced the high usage of our transporter service on exchange and I would like to know when the thresholds are reached to head them off.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Just because it is exchange does not mean you cannot use mail...you just can't use exchange :) You could attach an event to those events that uses blat.exe (a command line mailer) and some web mail service.
Something else would me popup messages. You could use msg.exe to display popups via network.
