Windows 7 print jobs not reaching queue except for a test page

I've got a curious case where Windows 7 print jobs aren't reaching the queue for any printers.  The curious exception is if I print a test page.  The job goes to the print queue just fine.  However, if I use any other program, the jobs don't even reach the print queue.  This user has 3 printers installed on their computer and this is the case for all of them.  One of the printers is CutePDF and the other two are USB.  I've gone into print management and removed all old printers/drivers.   The print spooler service appears to start and run normally.

When I try to print from Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat, everything looks normal.  I chose one of the printers and click print, but the job never reaches the queue.

When I try to print from Microsoft Excel, when choosing the printer, there is text just below each of the printers (after I select them) saying "Unable to Connect".

When I try to print from FireFox, I go to File....Print and a small window briefly flashes on the screen and disappears.  The normal print window never pops up.

When I try to print from Internet Explorer, I go to File....Print and the print window never appears.

And the USB cables are good? By any chance are the printers checked "use offline"?

And you've confirmed their Queue is empty/ not paused/ no errors in it?  

Is this a New problem? In other words, have they EVER been able to print properly? Is this a new upgrade to win 7 or an existing install?  Have you confirmed they have the most current drivers?
Have you tried removing the printers and reinstalling, maybe also change the usb port for one printer at a time?

This is a new problem.  The computer is about 2 years old and they have been able to print in the past without any problems.  The computer came with Windows 7.  I have confirmed they are the latest drivers.

I actually removed all the print drivers, disconnected the USB printers and reinstalled only the CutePDF printer.  I still experienced the problem.

Further troubleshooting the issue, I realized I was able to print from Wordpad and Notepad without any problems.  Very odd.

Here's a thought. Before starting Firefox, right click the shortcut, select Run as Administrator, and try to print.  Does that Work?
If yes, i think you may have to either remove and reinstall the software that Doesn't print as Admin, OR you could modify the Shortcuts to "Run as Administrator" under the Compatibility tab of the Shortcut Properties.

None of these items worked guys.  The Windows 7 installation would not complete.  I forget the exact error message, but it said something along the lines of "unable to complete Windows installation, reverting back......".  At this point, I'm going to format and reinstall Windows.
