In-place upgrade of Windows Server 2012 to 2012 R2 if SQL 2012 is installed

Hi there guys.

I know that an In-place upgrade of Windows Server 2012 to 2012 R2 when Exchange is installed is NOT supported.

How about a server that has SQL 2012 installed? Is an in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2012 to 2012 R2 fully supported? If yes, are there any additional preparation or actions for the role to continue functioning after the upgrade?

Thanks.

From what I have seen, this seems to be supported with one caveat.

It seems in some instances the configuration manager disappears from the start menu, however a fix has been identified for this, please take a read of the blog below:

http://scn.sap.com/community/sqlserver/blog/2014/03/27/windows-2012-r2-in-place-upgrade-sql-configuration-manager-disappears

Though his issue is specific to SAP the language would indicate an in place OS upgrade was performed with SQL installed and this was the only issue found (post upgrade).
