Adding Remote FX 3D Adapter to a Remote Desktop Session Host

I've got a RDVH with virtual pools of windows 7 VM and RDSH all on the same host, I want to add Remote FX 3d Adaptor to the RDSH but the Virtual OS doesn't recognise the adapter added... Is there something missing like drivers or something?

Can't be done, the vGPU feature of remotefx is *only* for VDI scenarios and only works in win7/win8 VMs.

@Cliff I know it can be done a physical Machine....

So is there a way of enabling Remotefx on a RDSH virtual machine, is the method the same? (i'm using a hyper-v)

Many Thanks

"I know it can be done a physical Machine"

The v in vGPUnstands for "virtual." You can't run the vGPU feature in RDSH on a physical machine either... but there'd be no reason to since the physical machine has direct access to the GPU.

vGPU allows virtual machines to share a GPU just like Hyper-V allows virtual machines to share a CPU. But the caveat with vGPU is that virtual machines *must* be running windows 7 or 8 in VDI scenarios. Server OSes supported. It isn't running RDSH in you VM that is blocking this. It is the VM OS itself.

No, you cannot do what you want. Full stop.

@Cliff

Have a look here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2011/03/25/q-amp-a-microsoft-remotefx-and-remote-desktop-session-host-servers.aspx

look at questions:
- What are the key benefits of using RemoteFX with RD Session Host?
- Can I virtualize an RD Session Host server and use RemoteFX with it?
- Can a virtualized RD Session Host server use a GPU at all?

Maybe I Rephrase the question... I just wanted to do if the virtualized RD Session Host will use any of the Remote FX features and the answer is sort of.

- Yes, but this RD Session Host server will not virtualize the GPU of the server even if a GPU is present.
- Yes. Windowed DirectX apps will still work on RD Session Host servers if a GPU is present; however, the GPU will not be virtualized in each session.

Nothing contradicts what I've said. You cannot use vGPU on a session host, which is what the Hyper- 3D adapter is for. So what is your question that hasn't been answered??

The user may have regretted asking the question in hindsight, but they didn't know the answer and a legitimate answer was given. Feeling that the question was "dumb" is not good enough to delete it. It was answered by an expert.

There was nothing I wrote that was rude or demeaning. "Nice" is very subjective and doesn't justify the "average" rating. My answers were thorough and accurate.
