Prefile SharePoint Forms

I’m working on an employee lifecycle workflow.  On hire the form/list item in the workflow is blank and this is fine.  However, in the case where there is a promotion/transfer workflow intiated, the form that circulates for that employee should present to the task worker with the employee’s current status from their list item.  Currently it presents to the task worker as blank.  This makes it nearly impossible for the task worker to know what rights/access needs to be modified. Using InfoPath ’13, how can I do this?  SharePoint is 2013 Enterprise.

It's possible to call web services from Infopath forms, and that's your key to this problem. Assuming your workflow stores the relevent data in a list somewhere you can configure your Infopath form to call the Lists.asmx web service on SharePoint to check if there is prefill information.

There are many examples of doing this sort of thing, I posted some examples below;

Thanks so much!  I'm PTO for a week, but will pick this up when I'm back.
