Exchange GAL Distribution Group Photos

This is a topic that keeps getting brought up and I can never seem to get a firm answer when I use the google machine.

We upload our employee photos to the GAL in exchange and have been doing so for years.  Every once in while, we'll get a department requesting a photo for their Distribution Group.

I re-do my research on the subject every time to see if anything has changed since I last looked.  From everything I've read, it appears as though Microsoft does NOT support this, but it is possible to achieve this via ADSI Edit?

For the record, I don't really care if it's achievable by hacking the schema via ADSI, I just need to know if Microsoft officially does or does not support this.  We use Exchange 2010 SP3 and Outlook 2010

you can try with powershell............

not tested with DL, only used for user before.

$group = Get-ADGroup "Groupname" -Properties thumbnailphoto
$group.thumbnailphoto | Set-Content c:\picture.jpg -Encoding byte

I can see that the DL group does have the thumbnailphoto attribute, technicially it should work.
