How do I increase the character limit for a link URL in Drupal 5?

Hello fellow experts,

I know that Drupal 5 is no longer supported but nevertheless we still use it, I was wondering, how do you increase the character limit for a link URL?

For example, I have an image that I would like to link to the following page;

https://web.cadca.org/eweb/DynamicPage.aspx?Action=Add&ObjectKeyFrom=1A83491A-9853-4C87-86A4-F7D95601C2E2&WebCode=ProdDetailAdd&DoNotSave=yes&ParentObject=CentralizedOrderEntry&ParentDataObject=Invoice%20Detail&ivd_formkey=69202792-63d7-4ba2-bf4e-a0da41270555&ivd_cst_key=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000&ivd_prc_prd_key=D216853E-01EE-4F0E-80BE-BB9A3C64DA90

But when I place it in the URL field, it gets truncated to this;

https://web.cadca.org/EWEB/DynamicPage.aspx?Action=Add&ObjectKeyFrom=1A83491A-9853-4C87-86A4-F7D95601C2E2&WebCode=ProdDetailAdd&DoNotSave=yes&ParentObject=CentralizedOrderEntry&ParentDataObject=Invoice Detail&ivd_formkey=69202792-63d7-4ba2-bf4e-a0da412705

Not including the remainder of the URL;

55&ivd_cst_key=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000&ivd_prc_prd_key=D216853E-01EE-4F0E-80BE-BB9A3C64DA90

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. It is most likely the character limit on the database column that is truncating the URL as you have 362 characters on the full url and 255 in the truncated version.

It is probably set to varchar(255) so increase that to varchar(500) or whatever number you think is a realistic maximum plus a bit of breathing space.

I don't think there is an actual limit per se for a URL but the limit is typically down to the browser application e.g. Internet Explorer won't take in more that 2083 characters but I have to say that I would be very surprised to encounter any URL that long let alone longer!
