convert mac mail to outlook 2011

I currently use Mac Mail on my Mountain Lion - based 2012 iMac. I have purchased Outlook 2011 and would like to transfer my mac mail to Outlook 2011.

I know there are tools you can purchase to do this (like Gladview, Stellar, etc.) but are there any free methods of doing this, even if they take some time to do?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Joshua,

That would be great if it worked. However, (at least my version of Outlook 2011 which has been updated to the current release) does not have the third option for importing, called "Information from another application" in the menu.

If you're using an iMap mail server, you should be able to connect to the server with outlook and view the same files.  If you have local folders, you can copy them back to the iMap mail server from Mail and then copy it back to the local disk.  One trick, if your mail isn't sensitive, would be add a gmail or yahoo and just drag the folders into them and then use your Outlook Client to drag them back out.  If you have pop, your mail will be deleted on the server unless you've checked the "leave messages on server" setting before you've started.

Unfortunately, Apple's mailboxes are in their propietary emlx format, not mbox, or you could use the existing 3rd option to load an mbox file.  This one's free but it looks very outdated.  http://vengefulcow.com/emlx2mbox/
