How to do a raw import of Backup Excec 2010 tapes

We have to import a bunch of LTO 2 tapes using an Fujitsu Siemens EXABYTE library. We don't know, which tapes belong to which savesets. Some tapes of savesets may be missing. That's why we get error messages concerning catalog issues, even after deselecting "Use storage media-based catalogs" within Backup Exec.

Now we would like to export just anything which is stored on tape onto a large hard disk, no matter of any catalog information.

Is there any raw import utility for Backup Exec tapes, which stores any information on tapes on hard disks (files or ntbackup file format)?

Did you try associating these tapes to retired media-sets and then delete those tape out of the backup exec. Once done you will have to delete the catalog folder to have it rebuild all from scratch otherwise it will throw that error all the time.

The better way is to put the drive/card in a brand-new system, download trail edition of 2013 and then try to do it there, so that you start clean.

Hi ambatihp,

thanks a lot. I did all that before (recover database so that it's completely empty, delete catalog directory, inventory, move to retired media-set, delete tapes there, delete calalog directory again, inventory, catalog tapes), unfortunately without success - always the same error message:

"0xe0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the catalog operation."

We installed BE 2010 on a new system. Fortunately we still had a license for that version, even the library option. If we installed BE 2013 Trial instead, would we be able to use the library without a valid library license?

Yes trail comes with 60 day license with all features enabled.
