I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

so far the only solution i have found is making a vbs script..

Option Explicit

Dim strSourceFile, strDestinationFile
Dim objFSO, objSourceFile, objDestinationFile
Dim strCurrentLine, strCurrentKey, strPreviousKey

strSourceFile = "C:\Temp\FullWin7x64Registry.reg"
strDestinationFile = "C:\Temp\RegTestResults.reg"

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objSourceFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strSourceFile, FORREADING,,UNICODEFORMAT)
Set objDestinationFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strDestinationFile, FORWRITING,True,UNICODEFORMAT)
objDestinationFile.WriteLine "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00"

Do Until objSourceFile.AtEndOfStream
    strCurrentLine = objSourceFile.ReadLine
    If Left(strCurrentLine,6) = "[HKEY_" Then
        strCurrentKey = strCurrentLine
    End If
    If InStr(strCurrentLine,"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe") Or InStr(strCurrentLine,"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe") Then
        If strCurrentKey <> strPreviousKey Then
            objDestinationFile.WriteLine vbCRLF & strCurrentKey
            strPreviousKey = strCurrentKey
        End If
        objDestinationFile.WriteLine strCurrentLine
    End If

Set objFSO = Nothing
Set objSourceFile = Nothing
Set objDestinationFile = Nothing

MsgBox "Done Parsing Registry File"
