Outlook 2007 - links within emails not working

My OS is win 7 prof 64 bit and I use office 2007.  My email client is Outlook 2007, and of late whenever I clink on the hyperlinks in an email, it does not work.  This is the error I get :
Microsoft Office Outlook
General failure.  The URL was :
[ name of the url ] Application not found.
OK button.
I even tried opening IE first, and then reading the email and clicking on the link and it still give me the same error.
Thank u for a solution to this.

Copy the link and then use it in IE (paste into Address bar|Enter).  Does the link work this way?  If not the link is at fault.
If this is something recent run a System Restore to a time before it started.
Is IE the default web browser?

In response to jcimarron, thank u for your response.  Even the links to IE emails to check the answers, give the same result like all other links.  IE is not the default browser, because for my bank account IE does not seem to work, but Torch works, Do not know why although I have informed the Bank about it.  But before the links used to open Torch browser to view the web page, but now it does not open anything, but gives the error message,  Am I hit by a virus?  Thank u.

It is not clear whether you tried
"Copy the link and then use it in IE (paste into Address bar|Enter).  Does the link work this way?  If not the link is at fault."

Or a System Restore.

Running your antivirus and antimalware programs never hurts.  Try it.
