cloning VM ware server to use on dev box - advice

I have a live server, its a VM Ware virtual server in a london datacentre
I have a cheap and cheerful intel nuc coming that i want use for myself and 2 others to test our web software on

Is there a way to clone the VM, and put on the intel nuc?
if so, what do i need to do to the Nuc to accept the image?

setting up a new server would take a long time, i'd ideally, like to use the image either as a VM on the Nuc... or even better just have it running natively

Install ESXi, on the NUC, and transfer the VM using VMware Converter.

or install a Windows OS on the NUC, and use VMware Workstation or VMware Player, and use VMware Converter to convert.
