z-index and links

We have a site - http://www.digital-wise.com/elwood/portfolio.htm where we put the container down to z-index -1 so that the logo can overlap.   However, now you can't click on any of the links in the body content.    I have tried promoting links to a higher z-index, etc but nothing seems to help.    Ideas on what to do??

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The bottom part of the logo gets cut off when I do that.   It's updated for you to look at.
