PRVF-3929 : Adding the Oracle binary location to the PATH environment variable will exceed the OS length limit of [ "1023" ] for the variable on the node "VB-THINK"

I am trying to install oracle 11g database, i got the following message:

Please help me.

Cause:  The installer needs to update the PATH environment variable to include the value "%ORACLE_HOME%/bin;". However, doing so will cause PATH to exceed the maximum allowable length that this operating system allows.

Here is the path variable:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files\Lenovo Fingerprint Reader\;C:\Program Files\Lenovo Fingerprint Reader\x86;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\;C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\OpenCL SDK\2.0\bin\x86;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\OpenCL SDK\2.0\bin\x64;C:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\bin\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\WirelessCommon\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared;C:\SWTOOLS\ReadyApps;C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\VIP Access Client\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Lenovo

The best practice here is to 1) SET PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%/bin:%PATH% so that the Oracle values are read and found first, but 2) deconstruct the one-size-fits-all existing PATH.  In this sample I see a lot of 32-bit/64-bit redundancy, but not the usual elements for Microsoft office, etc.

Do you actually use Windows Live?

I've seen some references where you can use links to shorten the PATH.

You'll need to shorten the PATH by either removing some entries or using links.

PATH is the list of directories to be searched for .BAT, .COM or .EXE file types.

It's going to best guess, Vijay, but one place to start is to determine whether or not you need to have the fingerprint readers:
C:\Program Files\Lenovo Fingerprint Reader\;
C:\Program Files\Lenovo Fingerprint Reader\x86;

Also, can you ask your people if you need "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG;"?

In a dinosaur part of my memory I have the impression that PATH needs to be no more than 256 characters, but don't quote me.

Any directory in the PATH that does not hold executables is not needed in PATH.

I would start by removing all the "(x86)" stuff.

Unless they are using some 32Bit software?

Thank you all for the input.
As recommended, I have removed x86 stuff, this is what I have now:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;
C:\Program Files\Lenovo Fingerprint Reader\;
C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;
C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;
C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;
C:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\bin\;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\WirelessCommon\;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo;
C:\SWTOOLS\ReadyApps

I am still getting the same the error:

Environment variable: "PATH" - This test checks whether the length of the environment variable "PATH" does not exceed the recommended length.
Expected Value
 : 1023
Actual Value
 : 1105
 List of errors:
 -
PRVF-3929 : Adding the Oracle binary location to the PATH environment variable will exceed the OS length limit of [ "1023" ] for the variable on the node "VB-THINK"  - Cause:  The installer needs to update the PATH environment variable to include the value "%ORACLE_HOME%/bin;". However, doing so will cause PATH to exceed the maximum allowable length that this operating system allows.  - Action:  Ensure that the sum of the lengths of your current PATH environment variable and that of "%ORACLE_HOME%/bin;" does not exceed the operating system limit. Restart the installer after correcting the setting for environment variable.

What i need to do next?

How are you editing the PATH?

Are you doing it directly using the environment settings or using some other tool?

On win7:
Hit the start button and type PATH.
Select: Edit the system environment variables.
Choose the button 'Environment Variables'

Under System variables, choose PATH and edit it that way.
