Employee internet, we monitoring

Looking for a solution to monitor employee internet related activity. Tried Sonicwall, Barracuda. Couple of others. Problem is all products we tried picks up noise and unable to tell the difference between actuall intended website person wanted to visit versus adds, links, browser search tool bars and etc. Therefore it becomes very hard for upper managment to read the reports so they can understand where emploees are going for sure.

Any thoughts?

I would suggest you to try the Web Gateway from BlueCoat.

One of the best.

simple solution set all computer to refer to your local intranet, hence no internet, then allow for surfing the web at lunch hour for 1-2 hours after that, no more internet connection. A simple consumer grade router can do that for you. Unless you're really into spying on employees which is wrong.

If non of those suggestion appeal to you, then you can use PFSense and set up logging, it will give you very details stuff for u to understand

If you have sophisticated hardware you can set policy base, scripts to grab a copy of the page your employee uses, n you'll see exactly what they see. however, if internet is need for job productivity you can just simply block all the regular websites and therefore calm the need to visit the web.
Can I ask roughly what size monitoring we are talking about and what systems you currently have in place?

50 - 100 people? and do you already use a proxy server?

ASKER

we are talking about 20 to 100 people. Currently we have either Barracuda Web filtering, Sonicwall Firewalls. So this is at Gateway level.
