Unable to install Windows updates

Hi,

The only way I can install updates on my servers are by shutting them down. then they install, and then I power on the server. I have gpo configured to have local admins install the updates.

I would like to be able to click in Windows Updates see what the updates are and manually install them. I manage another domain with the same gpo setting and it works fine. Not sure what I am missing?

See attached gpo config and wsus settings.

Policies look ok but have you checked that all the server objects in your target client group which the policy applies to. Also, make sure in the products list on WSUS that updates for Windows Servers are enabled, so it can detect them ready to download.

All the servers show up in the target group in wsus. They do get updates they I just do not have the ability to install manually. I need to shutdown the server to install them, then power it back on....

Do you get the Update icon in the Notifcation/System tray at the bottom right on the display?
If you click on that you get a update box with a list of updates ready to be installed and you can view them before installing them. Make sure that you have not disabled notifications for Windows update or Action Center on the servers.

I suggest removing the GPO settings, leave it a day or so for settings to revert to defaults and then setting them up again to fix it.
