Exchange 2010: We have Standard CALs and I would like to know what the default Retention Policy Tags cover?

We have Exchange 2010 Enterprise, with Standard User CALs.  I would like to set Retention Policies and use the default Retention Policy Tags that come with Exchange, without having to purchase the Enterprise CALs.  I'm curious as to the 'Type' listed as Personal Tag that are listed as defaults with Standard CALs.  What are the limitations with using the default Retention Policy Tags that come with Standard CALs?
Thank you,
Exchange

Thank you for the link.  We are going to use an archiving solution where emails are archived into the cloud.  What I need to do is set a retention policy to remove anything older than one year off our exchange server.  Basically can we use the default personal tags that come with the standard CALs to set policies to remove anything older than one year from all our users’ mailboxes?  Our business leaders have been told by our archiving vendor that we would not need the Enterprise CALs to do this.  I just need verification as to where we fall in this 'gray' area.

thank you for your assistance.
