Outlook 2013 - search no longer works

For whatever reason,

Can no longer search within Outlook 2013 for emails in main inbox, subfolders e.t.c.

What is the correct way to re-establish the index that it allows you to search emails e.t.c.?

How is the Outlook profile setup? Exchange? POP or IMAP or Web mail?
If its Exchange then you could ask Exchange admin to reset the search catalogs.
For internet mail protocols, Select File, Options, Search, Indexing Options, Advanced, Rebuild Index.

It is an Exchange setup

Probably the first thing to try (before change indexing options) would be to delete the local OST file, restart, open Outlook, allow the OST to rebuild and then time to index. The index relation to the OST could have been damaged.

Good point John, I was thinking of a similar possible fix.  I'll try the OST rebuild.
