Excel 2013 - Paste data from web page

Dear Experts,

I never knew the answer on this so just would like to ask,

if on a web page the data are in this format like on the picture, so number or text but the separator is the '.' character for 5.5

Original format on the web page
then pasting that into Excel why it becomes date, seems understanding that 05-may

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you paste in an unformatted cell, Excel attempts to format the data as a type.   It sees the 5.5 as a month/day combo.

Sometimes it guesses poorly.   If you paste into a cell that has been formatted for a number, it will present the number correctly.  Or, if you paste a number into a cell formatted as a date format, it will be formatted as a date!

Thank you for asking.
