XML document parsing

I have been tasked with parsing an XML file.

I have been given 2 files the XML file and an XSD file.

Inside the XML file if references the XSD file.

I want to use the XML document parser.

My question is:  What role does the XSD file play when doing the parsing?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. An XSD is an XML schema definition document, and it defines the structure that XML documents referencing it should follow. You can use the XSD to validate that the XML does indeed follow the expected structure as defined by the XSD. The XML parsing classes within .NET do have the ability to validate the XML against the XSD.

Do you have any .net code doing the validation?
