which sql version to use on machine with less resources (CPU power)

on a pc with less resource, it has both 2008R2 vs 2012 instance. is the 2012 heavier than 2008? would you recommend either way which to use to conserve resources?

    Cpu is rather about the queries than about sql server versions.
    Rather migrate the 2008 instance to the 2012 instance to save memory which is far more important than Cpu...

    There are overall performance improvements in every new version of SQL Server.

    Thus, for best performance, I'd suggest SQL 2012.

    Guy is correct here.  SQL Server is usually much more memory intensive than CPU intensive.  By running both 2008 & 2012 on a resource-challenged box, you are taking resources away from each other.

    If you already have databases running in the 2012 instance, I would choose that as the only one to have on the box.  Otherwise, I think it is a tossup.
