Does anyone have any formula or lotusscript solutions for creating a shipping calculator for a form?

A universal shipping calculator, for all countries and all providers? Probably not. Or do you need one that is limited to one provider and a few countries? It might be out there.

I can see 2 ways to develop this:
1. by yourself: design the form, the fields, add some calculation script (which actually shouldn't be too difficult) and present the results; important elements to consider: what if tariffs are changed? what if weights are changed?
2. partially by yourself: design the form, the fields, and then call a REST or SOAP API of one of the providers that returns the shipping costs; no calculations by yourself, the returned is always correct.

Could you elaborate more?

It's been a while Sjef, I haven't posted any lotus notes/ domino questions for a long time, glad to see you're still here.   I will award you the points and accept your answer although I do not yet know what direction I will take.  Thanks!  More questions to come.
