Hyperlink does not open image

Hello,

I have a field that stores a hyperlink that when we had a local server would open the picture from the link in Paint.  We have since moved this server to the cloud and I updated the hyperlink to the new server.

Example
"\\server.company.biz\folder\fileName.jpg".  If I click on the link, nothing happens.  If I paste the link into either my browser or windows explored, it opens perfect.  I went and set the server to a trusted location but that did not help either.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Make sure a program is associated with the "jpg" extension, otherwise the hyperlink won't know which program to use to open those files. If this is truly in the "cloud" (i.e. SSAS, or something similar), you'd have to do that on the cloud server. If you're just storing data in the cloud, then you'd have to make the change on the machine where Access is running.

The program is set to Paint.  It works fine if I paste the link into either a browser or windows explorer.  The only thing stored on the cloud is the picture.

Can you use Application.FollowHyperlink:

Application.FollowHyperlink "\\server.company.biz\folder\fileName.jpg"

If so, then you'd have to be sure that the image path is stored in a plain text field, and NOT a hyperlink field.

If it worked before, why would I need to do this now?

Ok. this did work.

I will change the field to a text box and run the application.followhyperlink on the click property.

How will I transfer the field value and put it between the " "'s?

Thanks.

Just do this:

Application.FollowHyperlink Me.YourField

Perfect.  Only addendum is it also works with a hyperlink filed and does not have to be a text field.
