Crystal Report will not show output to the screen without a printer assigned

In using Citrix, Crystal Report will not show output to the screen without a default printer assigned in Citrix. Why is this? Can I change a setting in Crystal Reports so that a default printer is not required?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Crystal uses the printer driver to render the report correctly.  If you don't have a printer or never want to print the report you can set the report to NO PRINTER

CR 2008 and later
Open the report
Click FILE --> PAGE SETUP
Click the NO PRINTER option.
Click the DISSOCIATE FORMATTING PAGE SIZE AND PRINTER PAPER SIZE option
Click OK

CR XI and before
Open the report
Click FILE --> PAGE SETUP
Click the NO PRINTER option.
Click OK

Does a report render to the screen? What happens if the user decides to select a printer for output? Will the output format at print-time?

>>Does a report render to the screen?
Yes.  Crystal uses the printer driver to render the report to the screen to get a closer WYSIWYG presentation.  What you see on the screen should match what is printed.

>>What happens if the user decides to select a printer for output?
It depends on the version of Crystal.  Early versions of Crystal (not sure when this changed) no printer meant just that.  You couldn't print.  Current versions allow you to print.  Yes the report is rebuilt for printing.
