I found this on the back of my pc.  Does this symbol mean that I can't use the port?

was this plugged into the port itself?

It might just be a dust cap but that symbol does imply it's not to be used.  I assume the port is physically there and looks 'normal'. If so, give it a try, what's the worst that could happen.....

I agree, it was probably telling you not to remove it until you are ready to use it.

Find the manual or the specifications for your computer.  That should state whether you have a HDMI port or not.  If it is a good manual it will describe the ports on the back of your computer and there should be information as to whether the HDMI port is usable or not.

in general, if there is an existing port, you can use it
