I've been looking around the net and this is simply not clear so time to ask and see if someone might know.

I am looking for the lightest (smallest) version of curl for windows which will work on most any version of windows, winxp,7,8 and it certainly doesn't need to be 64bit.

All of the 'official' versions of cURL are listed here: http://curl.haxx.se/download.html

I know, I saw that but I'm wanting to know if someone knows specifically which version would be the one I need.

There are no 'compact' versions listed anywhere.  The Win32 generic versions that are supposed to run on all versions of Windows are from this site: http://www.paehl.com/open_source/?CURL_7.37.0  There are several versions listed there by the capabilities that are included.

Maybe there is a custom compiled version somewhere out that. I'm not sure how to reach people who might know on this site since perl wasn't in the search results.

cURL is written in C for C89 compilers.  http://curl.haxx.se/dev/internals.html
