Hi guys,
I’m trying  to upgrade a Dell Inspiron 6000 from windows XP to Windows 7.
My problem is when I ran the upgrade advisor its telling me that the Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family
Is not compatible. I’ve tried the intel website and they have no driver updates for windows 7. I have been in touch with dell support and given them the machines unique number and they say that this machine is not capable of upgrading from windows xp. I have already purchased the windows 7 so before I proceed I could really do with some answers to the following questions.

1.      Is this possible to do?
2.      Where can I get the drivers?
3.      What issues can I expect if I go ahead without updated drivers?

If anybody else has come across this problem and has resolved it I would really appreciate their help.

Kind regards,

Here is a community post about a DELL 6000

If you have 2 Gb of ram it can be possible.

You will not find those drivers for Windows 7. Thus try to find the drivers for Vista and those must work in Windows 7 as well.
    1.      Is this possible to do?
Theoretically yes. Practically also yes - but some devices will be missing the driver. So ask yourself - do you need it?
    2.      Where can I get the drivers?
As said - try to find driver for Vista. For Windows 7 you will not find it.
    3.      What issues can I expect if I go ahead without updated drivers?
Actually no issues should occur other than instable system. But it should work.

btw... if this works, connect the system to the internet via lan cable and allow to update. It should install the bulk of the drivers itself. If not, post back that you need more drivers.

An Inspiron  6000 will run Windows 7 just fine as long as it has at least 1GB of memory.

You can force-install the XP drivers for the graphics, and they'll work fine.    Just run the installer for it in XP compatibility mode.

All the other system components should be auto-detected by Windows 7 ... either during the install or during a series of Windows Updates you do afterwards.
