sorting in a table

I have a table with sorting, but this result:

(($diff->format('%d')*24) + $diff->format('%h')) . ":" . $diff->format('%i');

gives me a text, not a time, so sort not work properly. Is there a way to change this to time?

    This format cannot be a time
    What table are you talking about?
