Can I use Dropbox as a Virtual Folder/Drive?

Can drop box be used as a cloud type drive?

Meaning can I view folders/files on a given PC/Server without having the files be replicated and occupy space on the local drive?

Would I have the capabilities of accessing the files from this virtual environment and also write files to it?

If there is another solution out there other than Dropbox please give me your expert input.

Thanks for your assistance.

You can use Drop Box as a cloud server and any machine that has Drop Box installed on it can access the files. If the folders have permission, users can write to the files in the folder.

So what you want can work just fine.

When you install Dropbox it immediately wants to bring a copy of the files to the local driver. Is there a setting that keeps that from happening?

All machines with Drop Box can use the same files if so permitted and to do that, it keeps a copy locally. That is how it works. If that cannot serve your purpose, then you may need something like One Drive.
