How do I delete email messages in Mac mail

I have a ton of messages in mac mail.  How do I delete these messages in bulk?  I do not want to delete the email mailbox.

    If the mail you want to delete is made up of consecutive messages, click on the first one, scroll down to the last one and shift-click on it. Then click on the trash icon in the menu bar.

    Don't forget to empty the trash.

    If you hold down the Option key while deleting, you will delete the message without selecting the next message and so marking it as "read".

    If you wish to delete all the messages in a mailbox, Command+A to select all of them.
