Hello all,

It seems that the last time a similar question was asked on EE was more than three years ago. LOL

There are plenty of cameras on DX that will fit my requirements. And all the technical specifications are easy to match up. However, the problem is almost always a combination of hardware/software reliability and poorly designed firmware/software.

I am posting this Q in hopes that someone out there is already using a similar camera.

The specifications:
- Record on motion
- Minimum 32GB uSD memory support
- Able to operate 24 hours (comes with AC power source)
- Very small size so that it can be easily hidden
- 1080 video caption w/audio
- Reasonably good low light video capture
- Under $120.00
- WiFi interface but will also work stand-alone

Nice to haves:
- When connected to WiFi, can send email notifications when motion is detected

Any recommendations?

Where do you plan to mount it? There's basically a couple of ways to go, one is disguised (where the cam looks like something else that belongs in the place where you plan to put it), and the other is built in (in which case, you need to cut holes in the wall or ceiling or something, run wires if needed, etc.

So, if you can tell us a little more about which of these approaches would work for you, perhaps we can get you a recommendation.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for your response. Sorry, I didn't make it clear. The camera needs to be portable (w/no wires except for power). So, non-mounted. Whether it looks like a camera or not is not nearly as important as having a small size, portable, motion detection, runs 24 hours (on AC power), and at least 1080p.

I'm not really aware of anything from a manufacturer that I trust that meets all of those needs AND is within your stated budget. If you can compromise on price just a little, take a look at the D-Link Cloud Camera 2200 (http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Wireless-Surveillance-mydlink-Enabled-DCS-2132L/dp/B0092KZ9AA). If you can compromise on image quality, you can take a look at D-Link's 1xxx series cameras (all 640 x 480).

Thanks for your effort.

I ended up finding a perfect solution (sold by DX for around $65.00).

Post back once you have it and test it, and let me know how it does?

If you decide on that one, I'd go with Ebay so you have their buyer protection plan and this one has free shipping. Same $65.00 price.

Thank you Nickg5, I usually check with eBay before buying on DX because DX is slow SLOW in fulfilling orders. Case in point, I ordered two of these cameras from DX on Aug. 21 and they still haven't shipped!

Thanks, I might just cancel the order and go through eBay.

P.S. It is really annoying that I keep getting EE abandon messages. I suppose I'll have to resolve this q.

Thanks again to all.

This q got away!

BTW, I have received and reviewed the Tenvis camera. Overall, I like it.

The only two issues I have with the camera are: 1) It runs fairly hot, 2) Email notifications via Gmail is a bit of a challenge (that I haven't solved yet - but this may be purely a gmail issue).

One of the best things about this camera is its less than 10 minute setup and DDNS interface. Literally, you have anywhere access, via a really nice mobile app, in less than 10 minutes.

Thanks to everyone for your participation.

I'm glad it worked for you. Ebay has some rules that benefit buyers like yourself. Ebay has a buyer protection plan against items not described properly by the seller,

As well a buyer can file a claim thru Paypal. Sellers are rewarded with good feedback by prompt shipping and sellers literally have to use delivery tracking which also benefits the buyers. Thanks for considering the idea.

Hello Nickg5 - Yes, I purchase (and sell) on eBay all the time. Often, I cross-reference to ebay before finalizing a DX purchase. Oddly enough, at the time of the Tenvis camera purchase, I forgot to check eBay... had I waited a week and read your message before committing to my DX purchase, I would have received the camera a month earlier.

I wasn't too sure how to answer this q so I gave the points to Nickg5, for finding a faster way to obtain this camera. DX is less expensive but it took nearly two months before it arrived. :(

The moderator refused to award the points the way you desired. No problem. I'll try to help someone else and get a few points.

Aw... that is too bad. No point in giving me the points. I gave you the points, as a thank you... kind of like a participation ribbon. LOL
