Internal IM solution for SBS 2011/2008R2

I've got a couple clients that keep wanting IM solutions for internal chat capabilities. both have elevated security concerns, and I need to ensure internal only connections, no file transfers, no remote control links.  either no video voice, or limited.

and the client needs to be controllable from the server or GPO only.

Any one know something pre-canned and not crazy extensive?  I've taken a quick look at Lync but it seems ridiculously more complex and expensive than required to provide internal "chatting" capability.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'm using openfire with sparks chat client, connected using LDAP. its free and runs on java. does not use a lot of resources.

I too was in the same boat as you. Installed this solution in less than 3 hours.
