Apple iPhone 3G - password

I have an Apple iPhone which is a 3G, and the carrier is Straight Talk.  Trying to be safe, I locked the phone with a password.  I set the password to on, then inserted a simple password.  But now when I try to open the phone with this 6 char letter password, I am unable to open it, and I got the disabled a few times and had to wait for an hour or so before trying again.  But it all failed.  As I have big fingers maybe I hit adjacent keys.  How do I recover from this disaster.  Thank u for your advice.

I agree with the above. I keep my phone backed up and I can recover it.

Another thing to try will require patience. Try different combinations using adjacent keys where your fingers may overlap the buttons.
