Stock Android Mail App

Hi guys

I wanted to know why I cant download/install the Stock Android Mail app on my HTC One M8..
I haven't got the google play edition. Also what would be the implications if I just installed it via the .apk?

Don't really like the stock htc mail app or the other 3rd party ones.

I suggest you install the official  Google Email app from the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.email&hl=en

While you can install the .apk file, I think you will have trust issues (how to be sure it's the official one? After all, you downloaded it from a 3rd party), and it won't get updated properly.

Google has let the stock android mail app go and it is actually the one Kimputer has suggested for you above. It is now available in their play store for everyone (perhaps only limited by device - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.email is where it can be found and is the same as mentioned above)

This is the most current version and would suggest that you do not try and install prior versions from unknown sources.

Agree with both above, there has been much in the news about security in android apps for email.

It's a shame other devices cannot use the Stock Mail Android app. I've contacted HTC about this and they've got no plans to make this compatible with their devices.
