Month Abbreviation

Hi there,

No matter what I try I can't get this to work.  I have a date field, event date and from that I have pulled out the month

month ({eventdate}) which returned a number.  From there, I built another formula to return text
monthname ({event month})

but I want the month name to be short form, eg. Jan instead of January.  The field was then used in a cross tab but it's too long.

Any ideas?

(I don't see the points option either to assign points to this case?)

Thanks very much,

    MonthName({eventdate}, TRUE)

The TRUE is optional and is used to determine if the month should be abbreviated or not.

You can also do it with CStr or ToText

YOu use 4 Ms for the full name

All options worked perfectly - thank you very much!

Could also just have used the {eventdate} for the row of the crosstab, change group options to 'for each month' and set the format for that to be whatever you want.  No formulas required.
