SBS Server 2008 and self signed SSL Certificate problems

On august 22 my self signed SSL certificate expired.
I used the Fix my internet wizard to renew the certificate. since then Exchange will not start.  specifically The Exchange Transport Service hangs when Starting.   The information Store will not start as a result.

What happened and how can I fix?
