Locked out of windows 8.1 pro computer. Any REPUTABLE programs that will unlock with a USB?
Has anyone successfully actually used software that will work? I've tried a few for purchase and none work.
Locked out? Forgot password?

Sorry, not locked out, local admin password isn't working. Need to reset.
The local admin password is disabled and not used.
You need to use the first user id and password you set up. By default, Windows 8.1 will use your email address. Did you try that?
If none of that works, did you create the recovery drive on a USB? That might help.

I am not sure if methods to do this are considered legitimate according to Experts-Exchange policies.
You could, however, search Google with ""windows 8 reset administrative password"" in the search bar and you'll find various ways to do this.

The following free solution definitely works on Windows XP and apparently on Windows 7. It might work on Windows 8.1:

It's also found on the Ultimate Boot CD/DVD.

Wired, you're a lifesaver. Thanks very much. After trying (and PURCHASING, GRRRRRR!!) about 5 different utilities, your second link provided the tool I needed. Hopefully this helps someone else. Beware folks, many password changers that work for Win7 do not work for Windows 8.1
You'll need to install the entire suite of boot loader tools on the USB drive and then you can select the password change option.

Great. :-)
For others: I had once used the classic nordahl tool, yumi helped me to make it USB bootable. Works on 8.1, too.
