Shibboleth and IdP

I downloaded Shibboleth IdP, and it can be configured for LDAP

I am confused on a small point.  Is the Shibboleth IdP actually a IDP, or is the LSAP that it points to the IDP

What would be correct terminology ?

Thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Shibboleth is still the IdP because IdP is a SAML term and it is Shibboleth that is providing the SAML functionality. If you are looking just to get your terminology right, you would say that Shibboleth IdP is then "delegating" the access/management of the users to LDAP.
