First you will need to select a Hypervisor OS ?

Will you be using Hyper-V in Wndows 2012 ?

Which one should I use?  I want to virtualize a server 2008 R2 to have sql 2012 on it to host a website.
Do you have a server, which you can use to host the Guest OS?
I have Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1 that I want to use to host sql 2012 to run the website.
Okay. you can add the Hyper-V role to Windows 2008 R2, but do you use that server, to host any other functions?

e.g. DC, File Server, Exchange Server because it's not recommended.

I added the Hyper-V role under Program and Features.  Is that a start? We only use the server to host the website.
That's a start.....

Now start Hyper-V Manager to create your first virtual server.
Can I create a virtual server 2012?
Yes, you will need to start Hyper-V Manager, Create a virtual machine, and connect the Windows 2012 ISO or DVD Media.

and turn on the VM, and follow the normal installation procedure.
How do I know if I have the correct Hyper-V Manager.  When I go to Start>Administrative Tools> Click on Hyper-V Manager all I get under Action is Connect to Server. Is that correct and what do I do from there?
Connect to you local server....so you can start to manage it.

You have WIndows 2008 R2 ?

You will need this KB from Microsoft

to support Windows 2012 on 2008 R2 Hyper-V
I do have windows server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
